A seventeenth century apartment is stripped of layers of half-hearted renovations to reveal its original volumes. It is rebuilt with the support of historical research and material fragments discovered on site and reinterpreted for contemporary living. Particular emphasis is given to the flow of space, with noble rooms in alignment overlooking the Seine. A lower, nineteenth century ceiling is removed and a plafond à la française lovingly recreated, including a painstaking shoring-up of four master beams with hidden structural elements in steel and resin. The clients privilege traditional French craftsmanship to give form to space: fine woodworking and carving, furniture-making, decorative painting, stone cutting and stone restoration. Secondary rooms are more contemporary in expression while maintaining a high level of craft. In the spirit of French Baroque, several decorative elements are displaced to reveal secret functions.

Un appartement du XVIIème siècle a été dépouillé de couches successives créées au fil des rénovations, lui restituant son aspect original à partir de recherches historiques et de matériaux découverts sur place. Une priorité est donnée au volume et au flux des espaces en alignant les locaux nobles côté Seine. Un plafond bas du XIXème siècle est déposé et soigneusement remplacé par un plafond à la française, étayé de manière invisible par quatre faisceaux structurels en acier et en résine. Les clients favorisent l'artisanat français traditionnel pour donner forme à l'espace: menuiserie et découpes raffinées, ébénisterie, peinture décorative et taille de pierre. Les locaux ancillaires sont d’une tonalité plus contemporaine avec une réalisation de grande qualité. Dans l'esprit du baroque français, plusieurs éléments décoratifs sont déplacés pour révéler des fonctions secrètes.
