A volume under the roof of a nineteenth century wood-frame home in Boston proves too large and ill-defined to be functional to a family of five and their guests. Like an oversized steamer trunk, an all-plywood construction is deployed in a corner of the space, serving as a bed box for sleeping, a library space for relaxing, and an expansive worktop for studying. The ceiling of the bed box is lit by tiny, star-like spots, and functional elements are encrusted into its birch wood for the comfort of overnight guests.
